19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hardcourt

A comeback Medvedev won his first title for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has endured a challenging period, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in specific - led to him exiting of the top ten and eventually separating with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This marks his initial trophy following the Italian tournament and initial on a hard court after that period of that year.

Victory also signifies he has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one various tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters at once, so to get a trophy is particularly special," said tennis professional the champion.

"This title is in tribute of my child my daughter, because the first title I got when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six finals, including in Halle earlier this year.

His defensive play style and regular outbursts on court had led commentators to question if his skill to compete at the elite level was over.

But the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and perform positively, supported by an improved serve.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult opponent, taking 4 of the concluding five points to take the lead.

The pair traded breaks in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his initial ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to create a final set.

The opponent defended 4 early chances in a close deciding set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.

Suitably, he secured the title with a rally at the net, with his opponent unable to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
